About the Area
Things to Do in the Area
Fruit and nut picking in season:
Apple, plums, peach, pear, cherry, strawberry, walnut and chestnut picking in the region.
Shopping for treasures:
Visit Crazy Beautiful Life homewares store, 332 Windsor Street Richmond; or various stores in Kurrajong Village. A longer trip to stores in Blackheath, Leura and Katoomba is also worthy. As a day trip, visiting Mudgee or Millthorpe are great.
Plant, craft and flower fairs and markets:
These operate at various times of the year and include the April Collectors Plant Fair, Hawkesbury Racecourse at Clarendon; the Blackheath Rhododendron Fair in October; the Blackheath Flower and Craft Market in September; the local Bilpin Market every Saturday 10am to 2pm for local produce; and others.
Garden visits:
Mount Tomah Botanical Gardens is only minutes away (www.mounttomahbotanicalgardens.com.au); or open gardens at Mount Wilson are a half an hours drive away. Both are great. Mayfield, a private garden open to the public, near Oberon is about and hour and a half away and is amazing (www.mayfieldgarden.com.au).
Bushwalks:
Many in the area, some with fabulous cliff top views. We have books on these.
Eating out:
You wont want to leave here much but there are some good restaurants close by including Hi Hope Roadhouse; The Grumpy Baker Bilpin (www.thegrumpybaker.com.au/bilpin); Maggie Lou's Bite Bilpin (www.maggielousbite.com.au); Mount Tomah Restaurant (www.mounttomahbotanicgarden.com.au/restaurant/); and Lochiel House at Kurrajong Heights. An hour's drive away is a great lunch at Tarana Pub (www.taranahotel.com.au) in beautiful country on the way to Oberon.
Buying food provisions:
Basics are provided here such as tea, sugar and coffee beans for fresh grinding. Our water is double filtered rainwater and delicious. As we are a half hour or so drive each way to a shopping area (Richmond, Blackheath, Katoomba, Leura), it is best to plan and bring provisions with you. There is ample kitchen storage space, a large fridge. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook any meal and a dishwasher to help clean up.
Getting Here
Located 1 ½ hours drive from most parts of Sydney, the trip up is lovely in itself. Once beyond Richmond, the scenery takes over and is green and rolling all the way, until you arrive at Suzarosa. We are located between Bilpin and Mt Tomah, off Bells Line of Road. Look for the "Suzarosa" sign and address sign "17 Berambing Crest" on the right if coming from Sydney, as property numbers don't flow too well on our road.
